nixon Stainless Steel Watch Casting - How Are They Made?
#1
Hey, I've always been fascinated by the sleek look of the Nixon Stainless Steel watches. Anyone know how exactly they're cast?

Good question! I believe Nixon uses the lost-wax casting process with their stainless steel models. They create a wax model of the watch, which is then surrounded by an investment material. When this material hardens, they melt out the wax, leaving a perfect mold of the watch!

Correct,. And the key benefit of this method is the high level of detail it can produce. Even the finest features can be reproduced perfectly.

Has anyone here actually tried to cast a stainless steel watch themselves? Sounds like quite a process!

It is indeed! I tried once, gave up halfway. It's more than just technical knowledge - you need the craftsmanship as well.
