Can Anyone Give Me Some Tips for Casting Stainless Steel Cotter Pins?
#1
I've recently been asked to resort to stainless steel cotter pins and start casting them myself. Does anyone have any useful advice, tips or techniques they could recommend?

I'd suggest you begin by ensuring you have a plaster mold which is pre-heated to avoid the shock from the cold mold.

is correct. Also, you need to maintain your molten stainless steel at the right temperature for casting. The melting point of stainless steel is around 1400 degrees Celsius, so it's not an easy task.

Yes, safety first, always. Apart from heat protection, also ensure you have the correct protective eye gear. Also, don't forget to de-gas your stainless steel before casting.
