I've been looking at car parts recently and I came across something called a stainless steel flexible exhaust casting. How exactly is that made?

I think it's made through a process called sand casting. The mold is created from sand and the molten stainless steel is poured into this mold to create the part.

Essentially, yes. With sand casting, you can create very large parts like exhaust systems. The flexibility though, that comes from the unique design and the ability of stainless steel to withstand extreme heat without deforming.

You're right. And because stainless steel can withstand heat and corrosion really well, it's an ideal material for car exhaust systems.
